Robert Smith agreed to release a greatest hits album with the condition that he himself could choose the tracks. The subsequently released "Greatest Hits" features select singles from their then-25 year history. Boris Williams to re-record acoustic versions of the "Greatest Hits". The acoustic disc appeared as a bonus disc on select first pressings of ''Greatest Hits''.
''Greatest Hits'' was also released on DVD. The video list is the same as the CD list, except "The Caterpillar", "Pictures of You", and "Close To Me (Closest Mix)" are hidden easter eggs. Six of the acoustic performances appear on the DVD.
