The game and its ancillary events comprise the league's '''Bowl Weekend'''. , held on April 29, 2006.]] HISTORY The series began in 2002 with the Grand Bowl, in which the champions of the league's Liberty and Independence Divisions met on the field for the IFFL 's championship. Since then the game has been played after each season. Grand Bowl X will be the IFFL's Fall 2006 championship game, and is tentatively scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 3 , 2006 at a location to be determined. ORIGINS The Grand Bowl was envisioned from the launch of the Independent Flag Football League as its championship game and signature event. League founder and Commissioner D.P. McIntire chose the name "Grand Bowl" after seeing "Grand" it as a synonym for "Super," and after rejecting names like the "Salad Bowl," "Oak Bowl," "Acorn Bowl," "Cherry Bowl" and "AmeriBowl." GRAND BOWL CUP After the Harlequins won the first two Grand Bowls, McIntire donated a traveling championship trophy, officially known as the "Grand Bowl Cup" but often referred to as the "McIntire Cup," presenting it to the league's champions following each season. The trophy features a gold-plated bowl atop a wooden base, with the base containing plates featuring each game's result, the date it was played, and the names of the members of the winning team. The winning team takes possession of the cup until the start of the next season, when its returned to the league for engraving and preparation for presentation to the next recipient. TRIVIA
