Governor Of Gibraltar




The Governor of Gibraltar is the representative of the British Monarch in the United Kingdom 's Overseas Territory of Gibraltar . The Governor is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the British Government . The role of the Governor is to act as the ''de facto'' Head Of State , and he or she is responsible for appointing the Chief Minister , along with other members of the Council of Ministers. In addition, he appoints the Financial Development Secretary and the Attorney-General and is a member of the advisory Gibraltar Council. The Governor also has sole responsibility for the Royal Gibraltar Police .

The current Governor is Sir Francis Richards .

The Governor has his own flag in Gibraltar, the Union Flag defaced with the Territory's Coat Of Arms .
