Global Church Of God

In the 1930s, Herbert W. Armstrong developed the Radio Church of God, mainly a radio program ministry, which eventually was renamed the Worldwide Church of God in the 1970s, at which time the group had a worldwide presence through free subscriptions to The Plain Truth magazine, radio programs, and television programs, all of which were internationally known, and three colleges in the US and England. This controversial Sabbath-observing group observed the laws of God handed down to Moses in the first five books of the Bible and held to repentance and baptism and the testimony of Christ as taught in the New Testament (The group held all 66 Books of the Bible.) About Jan. 10, 1990 year? Herbert Armstrong died, passing his mantle to Joseph Tkach Jr. Joseph Tkach then began a process of changing, some would say mutilating, the church so that today it is an ordinary Sunday-observing Christian group similar to any Baptist or Methodist church. During that period of change, many members left WCG, including ministers who began their own new, allegedly faithful-to-Armstrong splinter groups. The Global Church of God was one of these.

The "Global Church of God" was founded in 1992 , by Roderick C. Meredith, a former evangelist-ranked minister in the Worldwide Church of God in reaction to the Tkach changes, which did not become open and evident to the WCG membership until about 1995. Dr. Meredith was one of the original five evangelists ordained by Pastor Herbert W. Armstrong in 1952. It was the highest rank a minister could achieve in the Worldwide Church of God, apart from Armstrong, chancellor of the colleges and Pastor-General of WCG, whom many in the church believe {Link without Title} to be an "apostle" and the forerunner of Christ, that is, the announcer of Christ's imminent return.

The Global Church of God is active outside the United States , although its originating organization in San Diego, California, ceased operations. A majority of members left the Global Church of God in 1998 to join the Living Church Of God after a spat between the Global church board and Dr. Meredith. Some others went with smaller splinter groups whose leaders had been in the Global Church of God, while others were absorbed by another large splinter group, the United Church Of God . United formed about 1995 in response to the revelation of Tkach's revision of WCG doctrines and currently is the largest group that left WCG.

List of smaller groups which formed after the dissolving of the Global Church of God:

Church of God, A Christian Fellowship: Originally presided over by Raymond McNair. When McNair left to join the Living Church of God, Larry Salyer was chosen to lead the organization. CGCF later officially merged with the United Church of God, redering CGCF defunct. Some CGCF ministers who did not join UCG formed other organizations.

Church of the Eternal God: Led by a group of ministers who resisted the merging of CGCF with UCG. From the CEG website, Norbert Link seems to be the most prominent. CEG is affiliated with the Global Church of God in the United Kingdom and the Church of God, A Christian Fellowship in Canada.

Restored Church of God: Led by David C. Pack. Pack was removed from the GCG board and subsequently formed his own organization. Pack claims that his RCG is the only Church truly preserving the doctrinal legacy of Herbert Armstrong and is the sole remnant of "Philadelphians" on earth. In 2005, Pack posted a two-part sermon on his website claiming he is an apostle. Publishes "The Real Truth Magazine" and a host of booklets and publications on his website which is probably the most extensive website, in terms of content, among any of the Church of God groups.

Church of God, Fellowship: Led by minister Harold Smith.

Sabbath Church of God: Led by Warren Zehrung.

Church of God-21st Century: Led by former WCG evangelist Raymond F. McNair.
