Glen Gardner is a Borough located in Hunterdon County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the borough had a total population of 1,902. Glen Gardner is located at the extreme western border of Lebanon Township and was formed from portions of both Lebanon Township and Bethlehem Township in 1919. Known for many years as Eveland's Tavern for John Eveland who kept a tavern here, it later became known as Spruce Run Mills and Sodom. The village and post office were officially changed to Glen Gardner in 1871 in honor of the Gardner Brothers who established a chair and frame factory in the borough. GEOGRAPHY Glen Gardner is located at 40°41'52" North, 74°56'29" West (40.697699, -74.941314). According to the United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 4.0 Km&2 (1.6 Mi&2 ). 4.0 km&2 (1.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Glen Gardner borders Bethlehem Township , Hampton Borough , and Lebanon Township . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,902 people, 805 households, and 474 families residing in the borough. The Population Density was 470.7/km&2 (1,217.6/mi&2). There were 829 housing units at an average density of 205.2/km&2 (530.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the borough was 95.69% White , 0.89% African American , 0.11% Native American , 1.47% Asian , 0.11% Pacific Islander , 0.58% from Other Races , and 1.16% from two or more races. 3.42% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 805 households out of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% were Married Couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.1% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.07. In the borough the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 41.2% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.7 males. The median income for a household in the borough was $59,917, and the median income for a family was $75,369. Males had a median income of $50,776 versus $40,179 for females. The Per Capita Income for the borough was $28,647. 4.5% of the population and 4.2% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.8% of those under the age of 18 and 1.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. GOVERNMENT Local government The Mayor of Glen Gardner Borough is Stanley S. Kovach. Members of the Glen gardner Borough Council are Carol Morton, Richard Mitterando, Robert Nappa, John O'Brien, Linda Rifino and Steven Yaros. Federal, state and county representation Glen Gardner Borough is in the Seventh Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 23rd Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in grades K to 8 attend the Clinton Public School in the Town of Clinton Students in grades 9 through 12 attend Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner as part of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District . Voorhees High School serves students from Califon Borough (67 students), Glen Gardner Borough (75 students), Hampton Borough (87 students), High Bridge Borough (217 students), Lebanon Township (404 students) and Tewksbury Township (235 students).
