Born in the east end of Glasgow , Scotland , his father's name was William, and mother's name was Margaret (her Maiden Name was also Young). They emmigrated to Australia. Starting his career in Sydney , he first achieved international success in the 1960s as rhythm guitarist and in the band The Easybeats . Young co-wrote nearly all the band's songs, first with singer Stevie Wright , then later with lead guitarist Harry Vanda . After the band dissolved, Vanda and Young concentrated on writing and producing pop and rock hits for other artists and under various stage names. One such group was their own 'Marcus Hook Roll Band', a studio band, with brothers, Malcolm and Angus, and Vanda. With Harry Vanda, he co-produced AC/DC 's early albums, such as Powerage and High Voltage . He played as AC/DC's bass guitarist for a short stint early in their career.
