George Hicks




Hicks was general secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Worker for twenty years from 1921, and one of the leaders of the 1926 General Strike . He was president of the Trades Union Congress 1926-27 and a member of the General Council of the International Federation Of Trade Unions .

Elected as Member Of Parliament for Woolwich East in a 1931 by-election, Hicks served as a junior minister (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Works) in the wartime coalition government.
