He hosted a popular, long running television show called Cartoon Corners in the 1960's and 1970's. London, an accomplished artist and storyteller, would sketch illustrative scenes on a pad on an easle as he told classic tales, with children sitting all around him. With very little budget, he and his cast also did clever interpretations of classic novels such as "She who must be obeyed" and Greek Myths. In the show, he portrayed a clerk in a general store, working for a stingy boss, Mr. Dibley. London's character used his imagination to try to escape his humdrum existence. A "golden fleece" he discovered provided him with a ready source of magic. A "secret tunnel" he found led him to adventures in mysterious Quigley Mansion. Alas, there were limits to his dreams. He fell in love with Dibley's daughter, but she moved to Hollywood, returning him to his lonely, but imaginative, situation. |
