Garth Joseph (born August 8, 1973 in Roseau, Dominica ) is a former NBA player. At 7 ft, 2 in and 315 pounds, his physique is often compared to that of Shaquille O'Neal , especially when he was a young and raw-skilled center at The College Of St. Rose . However, Joseph’s skills never materialized and the slow-footed big man only appeared in a total of four NBA games, two with the Denver Nuggets and two with the Toronto Raptors during the 2000-01 NBA season. Joseph played the 2005-06 season for an Iranian basketaball team called Saba Battery {Link without Title} . LACK OF MOBILITY At one point, when Joseph played for the Mansfield Hawks (OH) of the International Basketball Association during the 1998-99 season, he was so unconditioned (and lacked speed) for professional basketball that during the course of a game, he would often stay on the defensive end of the court near the painted area and wait for the game action to come to him. Apparantely, this was an actual part of the game plan since he possessed a strong ability to block shots and rebound the ball. Of course, when he chose not to dart back and forth to both ends, his other four teammates were disadvantaged as they had to play offense against five defenders. |
