U.S. State of
Utah . As of
2000 the population was 4,735, and by
2004 had been estimated to decrease to 4,427. It was named for
James A. Garfield ,
President Of The United States in
1892 . Its
County Seat and largest city is
Panguitch 6 .
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 13,489

2) of it is water. The total area is 0.65% water. The
Colorado River , passing through a deep gorge, forms the eastern boundary. Westward, the cliffs of tributary canyons give way to the barren stretches of the
San Rafael Desert , beyond which a variety of mountains, plateaus and canyons make up the terrain.
