Information About

Gareth Taylor

Gareth Taylor (Born in Weston-Super-Mare , on 25th February 1973) is an experienced football player who currently plays for Crewe Alexandra on loan from Nottingham Forest . He is 6 ft 2" and weighs 13 stone 7 lbs.

Taylor started his career off with Southampton FC , but didn't make any first team appearences and was released. Bristol Rovers then signed him, and his height ment he was a good target man and he was very good in the air, infact 5 of the 6 goals he scored in 36 appearences where from headers.

Despite him not scoring many goals, he was was signed by Crystal Palace for £1.25 million. He failed to make an impact in the London outfit and only managed 20 appearences and 2 goals. He was soon released and was signed by Sheffield United , where he made 50+ appearences and scored 24 goals.

Manchester City then bought him for £400,000. He made around 40 appearences but only managed 9 goals. This led to him being loaned out to various clubs, including Port Vale , Q.P.R and Burnley (who eventually signed him on a free transfer). His time at Burnley was arguably the best time in his football career. He played just under 100 games and scored just under 30 goals, which made him become a favourite with the fans.

This was enough to persuade Paul Hart to buy him for Nottingham Forest for £500,000. He struggled to break into the first team and was the 4th choice striker behind the prestegious partnership of David Johnson and Marlon Harewood , and Darren Huckerby (who was only at forest on loan). When Johnson broke his leg, Huckerby returned to Norwich City and Harewood was sold to West Ham United , he finally broke into the first team, was given the captaincy in the abcence of Johnson and became Forest's top scorer in the 2004-2005 season when Forest where relegated. Even then he only scored 11 goals, but that was enough.

After a series of increasingly lazy performances, in which he just didn't seem to care, he was dropped from the first team and his captaincy was given to Ian Breckin by then manager Gary Megson . This made him the target of much abuse from the Forest faithful and was loaned out to Crewe Alexandra .

Many Forest fans said he was the worst player of teh 05-06 season, ahead of players likes of Nicky Eaden , who had a very poor season, David Friio and Gino Padula , who only made a handfull of appearences between them. Though, looking at the performances, fans are probably right to think this.

In more than 80 games for Forest, he scored 23 goals.

He is a former Wales international but only ever made substitute appearences and didn't score. Despite being born in England, he qualified for the national side through his father who was born in Wales.

He bears a strong physical resemblence to Soccer AM presenter, Tim Lovejoy .
