Adjacent to Galleywood is Galleywood common which is an area of fields and minor woodland. Galleywood is close to Great Baddow High School, in Great Baddow, and this is where the majority of the young population attend. Although some also attend Moulsham High School. Galleywood has a higher percentage of retired citizen than the UK average (uk2002census) The name Galleywood comes from the times of Henry Vlll, who used the woodland area near the hamlet to make the galleys for his navy.
