Information About

Galavision

Galavisión is a Spanish-language Cable Television Channel in the United States owned by Univisión .

In its early form, the network was a home for both Spanish and English programs, including the popular "Kiki Desde Hollywood". Now the network is seen as more of a drop off for old Televisa Novelas ,and shows that aired on Univisión (Al Ritmo De La Noche).

But recently Galavisión has expanded its programming to more Spanish language shows with 95% coming from Televisa's Canal De Las Estrellas , including the popular mid morning show "HOY" with former Telemundo morning show host Pita Ojeda doing a "better living" segment (in the early days she was the show's producer) and from Televisa's 4tv , including the popular Las Noticias Por Adela . Recently, Galavision brought back Estrellas' long time mid afternoon show "Nuestro Casa" after being off Galavision for 2 years, and have also moved "Noticiero con Lolita Ayala" from its former 4pm time slot to now air LIVE at 3:30pm, while airing "A las tres con Paola Rojas" still on a 4 hour delayed basis.

5% of Galavision's programs are produced by the channel ("Acceso Máximo", "Deportes Connextion").

The programming still is basically Telenovelas from the 70's,80's and early 90's, plus comedies ( El Chavo Del Ocho , El Chapulín Colorado , Al Ritmo De La Noche , Dr. Cándido Perez ) as well as sports like "fútbol" ( Soccer ), Boxing replays from TeleFutura , and Lucha Libre (wrestling).

Galavision USA will, under Univision's broadcast standards, pull a show for an indefinite period (as long as 2 years, in the case of " Nuestro Casa "), due to portions of the program that does not meet Univision's programming standards or is deemed offensive. For example, in 2004, an edition of the gossip show " Con Todo " was not seen, due to one of its hosts appearing in black face; and on February 24, 2006, an edition of "HOY" featured a "Better Living" segment and accompaning Reynaldo Rossano skit that was found to be, in the opinion of Univision / Galavision, unacceptable for airing in daytime hours, and was replaced abruptly with another program. Galavision would also, without notice, automaticaly break to a commercial and return to the program on a 4 to 7 second delay basis, as is commonly done with "HOY".

Galavisión is also the name of a Mexican TV Channel Owned By Grupo Televisa . Nether the US nor Mexican Galavisions are related to each other, other than the Televisa-produced programming.
