Alf Roberts and always had a soft spot for Alf's wife,
Audrey . He was a widower, but remarried
Maureen Holdsworth . However, shortly after their wedding, Maureen realised it had been a terrible mistake, and left him for
Bill Webster . Fred then fell for barmaid Eve, married her and bought the pub for her to run. However, Eve turned out not to have divorced her previous husband before marrying Fred, and she left as suddenly as Maureen.
Fred is noted for his booming voice, tendency to repeat things, his frequent use of butchery terms in everyday conversation (particularly referring to women), and for proposing to every woman he falls in love with, usually being rejected.
