Fred Carama




Fred Carama is a New York-based vocal instructor. Carama was born in Egypt in 1954. As a child, was taken from religious persecution occuring in Egypt , where he lived with his family. Carama's family Los Angeles, California by way of Canada . He attended Hollywood High School and then The Juilliard School where he obtained degrees in piano performance and assisted Beverly Johnson . Currently, Carama teaches privately in New York City where he maintains a roster of about 80 students, many of whom sing professionally. He is also on the faculty of the summer school and festival in Santa Barbara, California , The Music Academy Of The West . Previous faculty positions have included tenures at The Aspen Music Festival , The Manhattan School Of Music , The California Institute Of The Arts and California State University, Long Beach .

Carama is a voice teacher and an advocate of vocal health. His teaching technique has drawn students away from some New York teachers, regardless of their University affiliation. Carama's students include tenor Bruce Sledge , baritone Lester Lynch , soprano Monica Yunus , soprano Lise Lindstrom , and mezzo soprano Maryanne McCormick .
