The Frankston railway line is a Suburban Railway in Melbourne , Australia .


INFRASTRUCTURE

After the Sandringham line branches off at South Yarra , the Frankston line shares a 4-track section with the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines.

After Caulfield , the Frankston line branches from these lines. The section of track from Caulfield to Moorabbin has three tracks. The extra track permits the use of one track as an express track during the morning and evening peaks.

After Moorabbin, the line reduces to two tracks. The stations south of Moorabbin have two platforms, except for Cheltenham , which has three.

On August 1 1882 the line from Mordialloc to Frankston was opened.
