Franco-Manitobans are a community of French -speaking people living in Manitoba . The community is centred primarily in Saint Boniface , an area of Winnipeg , although there are smaller numbers of franco-manitobans living throughout the province as well. Notable Franco-Manitobans include writer Gabrielle Roy , singer-songwriter Daniel Lavoie , federal Members of Parliament Ronald Duhamel and Raymond Simard , provincial MLA s Neil Gaudry and Kevin Lamoureux , member of the Canadian Senate Maria Chaput , country singer Lucille Starr and cellist Michael Nicolas .
