Fiachra Trench is a musician and composer from Drogheda , County Louth in the Republic Of Ireland . Trench first studied music at Trinity College Dublin , before moving on to the University Of Georgia in 1963, and then the University Of Cincinnati . From 1969 until 1991 he lived and worked in London . He is credited with the string arrangements on " Fairytale Of New York " by The Pogues . Other artists he has worked with include Van Morrison , Elvis Costello , Art Garfunkel , Sinead O'Connor and Paul McCartney . He taught McCartney's late wife Linda to play the piano. He has scored and composed music for a number of films including Pearl Harbour , The Boxer , The Tailor Of Panama and The Ring . In 2006 he reworked Clint Mansell's "Lux Aeterna" for the 2006 AIB Ryder Cup advertising campaign. EXTERNAL LINKS |
