GEOGRAPHY Farragut is located at 35°52'39" North, 84°10'25" West (35.877511, -84.173548). According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 42.1 Km&2 (16.2 Mi&2 ). 41.7 km&2 (16.1 mi&2) of it is land and 0.4 km&2 (0.2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.05% water. To a resident, the entire area of western Knox county, including those areas in the county that are not incorporated into Knoxville or Farragut, are usually referred to as "Farragut". Farragut High pulls students from throughout the town and areas outside the city limits. HISTORY Farragut was incorporated on January 16 , 1980 . The first mayor and aldermen were elected April 1 , 1980 . Farragut includes much of the area where the Civil War Battle Of Campbell's Station was fought on November 16 , 1863 . "Old Concord" is an area of the town sitting on the old channel of the Tennessee river. Picturesque buildings and antebellum homes sit along the river, as well as several very old churches. Part of the $500 million Turkey Creek shopping, office, and housing development, began in the late 1990s , is within the town's borders. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 17,720 people, 6,333 households, and 5,231 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 425.2/km&2 (1,101.5/mi&2). There were 6,628 housing units at an average density of 159.0/km&2 (412.0/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 93.88% White , 1.80% African American , 0.15% Native American , 3.16% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.33% from Other Races , and 0.69% from two or more races. 1.07% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 6,333 households out of which 39.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.0% were Married Couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.4% were non-families. 15.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.08. In the town the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 32.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males. The median income for a household in the town was $82,726, and the median income for a family was $91,423. Males had a median income of $70,873 versus $34,955 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $35,830. 2.9% of the population and 2.6% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.9% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
