FEMSA was founded in 1988 by Eugenio Garza Lagüera (Before, it was named VISA). It is the largest beverage company in Mexico and Latin America .

FEMSA is divided into five segments:
  • ''' Bottler which is the second largest bottler of Coca Cola in the world.

  • FEMSA Comercio: which operates OXXO , the biggest convenience store chain in Latin America, as well as other smaller convenience stores called “deposits”.

  • ''' which produces some of the best Mexican beers like Indio , Carta Blanca , Tecate , Sol, Bohemia , Superior , Dos Equis , and Kloster . Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma is the second largest brewer in Mexico, just after Grupo Modelo . On January 16 , 2006 FEMSA announced it would take control of the Brazil ian company Cervejarias Kaiser by purchasing 68% of its stocks.

  • FEMSA Negocios Estratégicos which is divided into:

  • ---FEMSA Logística: which is in charge of the distribution of all FEMSA products.

  • ---FEMSA Empaques: is in charge of designing and creating the bottles, as well as labels, for Cervecería Cuauthémoc Moctezuma products as well as refrigerators, and other promotional products.

  • Since 1995, José Antonio Fernández has been the Director General of FEMSA. In 2001, José Antonio Fernández Carvajal was elected as Chairman of the Board and of FEMSA.

FEMSA is listed both of the New York Stock Exchange () and the Bolsa Mexicana De Valores ().

FEMSA also owns two private jets:
