The Expediency Discernment Council of the System (. Its purpose is to resolve differences or conflicts between the Majlis and the Council Of Guardians , and also to serve as a consultative council to the Supreme Leader . As of 1998, the council is headed by Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani . All members of this council are directly assigned by the Supreme Leader .
