European Golden Boot




Lately, the award has depended on a complicated system of points, giving, for example, a 25-goal player from Serie A a higher ranking than a 25-goal player from the League Of Wales . However, before this, the award was simply given to Europe's top goalscorer, regardless of which league he participated in.


GOLDEN BOOT 1968- 90

Between 1968 and 1990, the European Golden Boot was given to the highest goalscorer in any European league.


GOLDEN BOOT 1991 - 96

Between 1991 and 1996, no Boot was awarded, but the top European scorers (and therefore those who would have taken the prize) were:


GOLDEN BOOT 1996-

Since the 1996- 97 season, European Sports Magazines have awarded the Golden Boot based on a points system that allows those in tougher leagues to win even if they score less goals than someone in a poor league. In this table, the winner ''and'' the continent's top-scorer (in ''italics'') have been listed for each season.


TOP SCORERS PRE-1968

Although the award was not given before 1968, this is a list of the top goalscorers in Europe for seasons before this and is therefore a list of those who ''would have'' obtained the award if it had existed at the time.
