Euglossine bees, also called orchid bees, are the only group of corbiculated bees which do not possess Eusocial Behavior . Most of the species are solitary, and some exhibit the first steps of social behavior evolution.

Male orchid bees collect different volatile compounds throughout their lives, and this behavior is supposed to attract females, who in turn select the males with the more diverse bouquet of perfumes. This behavior is unique in the animal kingdom.

There are about 200 described species, distributed in five genera: '' Euglossa '', '' Eulaema '', '' Eufriesea '', '' Exaerete '' and '' Aglae ''.

There is a recent work about those bees: Orchid bees from Costa Rica , by Dr. Roubik.
