Etihad Airways is a national Airline based in Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates , operating routes to the Middle East , Europe , Asia , the Indian subcontinent and North America . Its main base is Abu Dhabi International Airport . Etihad Airways is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization .

HISTORY


The airline was established in 2003 and started operations on November 13 2003 . In December 2004 it won the 'World's Leading New Airline Award' at the 11th World Travel Awards in Barbados . It is wholly owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi. It aims to fly to 70 destinations worldwide by 2010.

Etihad Airways is the first airline in the UAE to fly to Toronto (via Brussels) through a codeshare agreement with SN Brussels Airlines .


FLEET


The Etihad Airways fleet consists of the following aircraft (at March 2006):



In February 2005, Etihad Airways announced that five Boeing 777-300ER had been ordered for delivery in October-December 2005. These planes have been delayed. However, the first 777 was delivered at the end of January 2006 with the rest to follow. The first Airbus A330-200 built to Etihads specifications arrived in March 2006.



























Etihad also has a cargo division named Etihad Crystal Cargo. Its fleet consists of the following (at March 2006):


Etihad Crystal Cargo flew the first commercial cargo flight between Abu Dhabi international airport and Frankfurt International Airport.
