Buckmaster studied and later taught at the National Gallery School in Melbourne {Link without Title} . He became a painter of traditional portraits and landscapes with a substantial workrate. His work has been widely popular in Australia and New Zealand, with public Art Galleries in Australia and New Zealand hold large collections of his work. Buckmaster disliked Modern Art , publicly denigrating it through letters to a newspaper.
