Eric McCormack (born on April 18 , 1963 in Toronto, Ontario , Canada ) is an Emmy Award -winning part- Cherokee Canadian Actor . Educated and trained as an actor in Canada at Ryerson University , McCormack has been appearing in television productions since his debut in 1986 . His role as the somewhat Homomasculine Gay Lawyer in the NBC Comedy Series '' Will & Grace '' has brought him his most widespread success to date. Nominated for Emmy Awards on three occasions for this role, he won the ''Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy'' in 2001 . During the 1999-2000 Broadway season, McCormack briefly portrayed Prof. Harold Hill (replacing Craig Bierko ) in the Susan Stroman revival of '' The Music Man '' while on hiatus from '' Will & Grace ''. McCormack has been married to Janet Holden since 1997, and they have a son, Finnigan Holden McCormack. He has also recorded a song, "The Greatest Discovery", which was written by '' which had Barry Manilow playing the piano on the track. TRIVIA
