''Enthusia Professional Racing'' is a Racing Game for the PlayStation 2 . It is the first Auto Racing Simulator made by Konami .

"CHANGE YOUR REAL"

Enthusia has five play modes: Enthusia Life, Free Race, Driving Revolution, Time Attack and Versus Racing. Although the main mode "Enthusia Life" is a little odd it is original and totally different from Gran Turismo. Unlocking vehicles is done by beating the vehicle whilst avoiding any collisions (with other vehicles or going off the track) in the "Free Race" mode, again this is totally different from the way cars are unlocked in Gran Turismo games. In Driving Revolution players must attempt to pass through gates at the correct speed while accelerating, braking or keeping a constant speed. Points are gained for doing this correctly and enough points must be gained to pass on to the next level.

Compared to a +700 vehicles racing simulator like Gran Turismo 4 , Enthusia distinguish itself by a decent selection of rare makers such as Saab or Smart and collectible cars including the Bugatti EB110 '91, Citroën DS 23 Pallas '73, BMW M1 Procar '79, BMW 3.0 CSL works car '73, De Tomaso Pantera GTS '73, Alfa Romeo SZ '89 and more. Also when Gran Turismo 4 often offers similar japanese vehicles with only a paint color or tire size change per grade, e.g. +20 Mazda RX-7 ( Mazda Roadster , Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution , Honda NSX ) versions or even +40 Nissan Skyline versions, Enthusia developers have limited the japanese cars to 50% and selected the best grade to produce more variety.

The game's visual effects include a speed blur effect on First Person view (appearing in Genki 's Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix released a few weeks later), superior graphics on highly detailed CG-like car model (Citröen 2cv 6 Charleston) e.g. the Bugatti EB110 's rear spoiler slowly rise up in real time at the beginning of the race just like in the real life! Enthusia also features course realistic foreground texture (Burgenschlucht, Löwenseering courses), and virtual life course animations such as birds take off and animated windpower park (Burgenschlucht), multiple waterfalls, rivers and fountains (Mystic Caveway, Edge Of The Road), car traffic (Route De La Seine) or even a full Aerobatic demonstration team emitting coloured smoke trails (Löwenseering) packed with a realistic aircraft fly-by sound. Enthusia contains ultra realistic engine, tire and exhaust sounds admired by car industry professionals (Hiroshi Ito from Mazda Motors vehicle development division) and experienced pro driver celebrities (Motoharu "Gan San" Kurosawa which raced 6000 laps over Nürburgring the last 20 years).

The Replay mode in Enthusia is pretty different from the one seen in Gran Turismo 4. Despite these opposite approaches, static camera and travelling in Enthusia versus dynamic flashy multiple angles à la music video in Gran Turismo, both of them are TV realistic. The most impressive Replays are the rally tracks with dirt appearing on the sideskirts and tires (Mystic Caveway) and the rally raid track with cars emitting smoke, realistic visual effects such as wind stream moving dune sand, animated waves on the Dakar seashore or choked sound of the car bouncing on the sand dunes (Mirage Crossing).

In other hand there are some flaws and perfectible aspects such as the low-fi background bitmaps (Dragon Range, Burgenschlucht) which looks like unnatural and inferior compared to the photo realistic high resolution background bitmaps used in Gran Turismo 4 (Citta Di Aria, Grand Canyon courses). Also, the game could have featured options such as Widescreen mode, 480i, screen adjust setup, hide display function and Dolby Prologic II sound instead of Mono/Stereo. Konami could have added a search engine dedicated to the courses not only cars.

Enthusia can be used with the Logitech Driving Force and Driving Force Pro steering wheels.
