GEOGRAPHY Elkton is located at 35°3'46" North, 86°53'53" West (35.062892, -86.898131). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 3.9 Km&2 (1.5 Mi&2 ). 3.9 km&2 (1.5 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 510 people, 203 households, and 142 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 131.3/km&2 (340.6/mi&2). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 58.2/km&2 (150.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 64.51% White , 35.10% African American , 0.39% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 203 households out of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were Married Couples living together, 14.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.01. In the city the population was spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
