Elizabeth Swann is a fictional character in the ''. Two sequels to "The Curse of the Black Pearl" are now in production and will be released in 2006 and 2007 , respectively. The beautiful Elizabeth is the somewhat naïve, but lovable daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann and is in love with the character of Will Turner , a blacksmith and implied childhood friend. However, she is proposed to at the beginning of the film by Commodore James Norrington . When Pirates under the command of one Captain Barbossa raid Elizabeth's Caribbean town of Port Royal , she finds herself taken captive by them because an Aztec Coin Necklace in her possession leads them to believe she is the last person needed to release their ancient curse, when Turner is actually the person being sought after. Both of Elizabeth's suitors race to her rescue, Norrington with the British Royal Navy , and Turner, using "less-than-legal" means in the company of one Captain Jack Sparrow . Both men are actually given the chance to rescue Elizabeth, and at one point she agrees to marry Norrington in order to save Turner's life as it is Turner she truly loves. When Norrington realizes this, he sees he cannot force her to marry him, and relatively graciously concedes her hand to Turner. It is speculated that Elizabeth and Will's wedding will occur in one of the later films. Swann is portrayed by the British actress ''). Knightley accurately sums up this character with the words, "She's some kind of modern girl stuck in the world of the 18th century." Elizabeth, in essence, has the propriety and breeding of a noble lady, but the wit and will of a pirate wench. TRIVIA
