The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) is a Canadian Orchestra in Edmonton, Alberta . The first Edmonton Symphony Orchestra originated in the 1920's, but folded in 1932. In 1941 a new body was created, and its current professional form dates from the 1952 establishment of the Edmonton Symphony Society. The group performs its annual subscription season in the Francis Winspear Centre For Music in downtown Edmonton. William Eddins became the Music Director in 2005 and Kazuyoshi Akiyama is Principal Guest Conductor. The current Composer-In-Residence is John Estacio, and New Zealand native Martin Riseley is concertmaster. The ESO has made several recordings on the CBC record label, the majority of which were recorded during Uri Meyer's tenure as ESO Music Director. The orchestra's live collaboration with Procol Harum in 1971 resulted in a gold album " Procol Harum Live With The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra " and hit single Conquistador , both released in 1972.
