Edgware Road Tube Station




Edgware Road tube station is a name shared by two separate stations on the London Underground . Both stations have entrances on Edgware Road , approximately 150 metres apart and on opposite sides of the Marylebone Road flyover and Dual Carriageway . Both stations are in Travelcard Zone 1 .

These stations should not be confused with Edgware Station at the northern end of the Northern Line .


CIRCLE, DISTRICT AND HAMMERSMITH & CITY LINES STATION


The southerly station is in the open and serves the cut and cover routes of the Hammersmith & City , Circle and District Line s. Edgware Road is a Terminus for the District Line service to Wimbledon Station , and is between Baker Street and Paddington Station on the Hammersmith & City and the Circle Lines. It is located on the corner of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street.

This station was part of the world's first underground railway when it was opened as part of the Metropolitan Railway between Paddington and Farringdon on 1 October 1863 .


BAKERLOO LINE STATION


The northern station serves the deep tube Bakerloo Line . It is situated between Paddington and Marylebone stations and is located on the corner of Edgware Road and Bell Street.

The Bakerloo Line station opened on June 15 , 1907 , and was closed between June 24 , 1990 and January 28 , 1992 for replacement of its lifts. The building was designed by Leslie Green .


EVENTS


On 7 July 2005 a bomb exploded on a Circle Line train leaving Edgware Road west bound for Paddington Station which killed 7 people including the bomber, now believed to have been Mohammad Sidique Khan .
