Ed Markey




He is the ranking Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet.

He is well known for his advocacy for ending torture and the practice of Extraordinary Rendition , through the Torture Outsourcing Prevention Act.

In 2004, he announced that he would run for John Kerry 's seat in the United States Senate if Kerry were to be elected President of the United States. Kerry, however, lost the election, but Markey was reelected easily in 2004 over Republican Ken Chase and Independent Jim Hall by a margin of 74%-21%-5%.

Since May 2005 he has been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post .

He is married to Dr. Susan Blumenthal.
