East Greenwich Township is a Township located in Gloucester County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the township had a total population of 5,430. East Greenwich Township was created by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 10 , 1881 from the eastern part of Greenwich Township and the western part of Mantua Township . East Greenwich includes the Unincorporated communities of Clarksboro , Mickleton and Mount Royal . GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 38.8 Km&2 (15.0 Mi&2 ). 38.2 km&2 (14.8 mi&2) of it is land and 0.6 km&2 (0.2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.47% water. East Greenwich Township borders Greenwich Township , Paulsboro , West Deptford Township , Mantua Township , Harrison Township , and Woolwich Township . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 5,430 people, 1,901 households, and 1,515 families residing in the township. The Population Density was 142.1/km&2 (368.1/mi&2). There were 1,971 housing units at an average density of 51.6/km&2 (133.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the township was 94.68% White , 3.26% African American , 0.13% Native American , 0.64% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.24% from Other Races , and 1.05% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,901 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.9% were Married Couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% were non-families. 17.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.12. In the township the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males. The median income for a household in the township was $65,701, and the median income for a family was $74,455. Males had a median income of $51,662 versus $31,619 for females. The Per Capita Income for the township was $25,345. 3.9% of the population and 2.6% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.2% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. GOVERNMENT Local government A Township Committee, composed of five members who are elected for three-year terms, governs East Greenwich Township at the local level. The committee selects the mayor for a one-year term. East Greenwich Township Committee members are Mayor John F. DeGeorge, Deputy Mayor David S. Jenkins, Fred Grant, Michelle Haenggi and Pete Miskofsky. Federal, state and county representation East Greenwich Township is in the First Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in grades K-6 attend the East Greenwich Township School District . The school district services students in Grades K-6 in two elementary schools. The schools in the district (with 2003-04 enrollment data from the National Center For Education Statistics are Jeffrey Clark School , located on Quaker Road, has an enrollment of 258 students Grades K-2 and the Samuel Mickle School , located on Kings Highway, serves 353 students in Grades 3-6.
