''Earthbound 64'' ('') was a cancelled game that was going to be released for the Nintendo 64 and then on the Nintendo 64DD . Several years later is was revealed that the project had started up again for the Game Boy Advance . It is not yet known how much is taken from the N64/64DD versions. However, pre-release information from ''Earthbound 64'' involved a cowboy as one of the main characters, and pre-release screenshots of the GBA ''Mother 3'' included the protagonistic Cowboy , Flint and introduced many of the same characters that were planned to appear in the N64 version. Thus, it appears that some things have carried over from it. Also, it is not yet clear as to whether or not the GBA version will contain the same story.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

As stated earlier, ''Earthbound 64'' was going to be released for the Nintendo 64DD . Shigesato Itoi 's team ran into some trouble while developing this game, due to their inexperience with 3D games and the difficulty of developing for Nintendo 64 hardware. The final nail in the coffin, Nintendo 64DD 's failure, destroyed all hope for the game.

Though information on the characters was scarce, the main characters are as follows:
  • Flint - A cowboy

  • Lucas - A twin

  • Klaus - the other twin

  • Boney - the dog

The villains of the game consisted of the Pig Army, thought to be led by one of ''EarthBound's'' Antagonist s, Pokey Minch . There were also other returning characters like the Mr. Saturn and a picture of someone who clearly resembled Doctor Andonuts .

However, on August 21 , 2000 , Itoi officially confirmed the game's cancellation.

It appears that ''Mother 3'' for GBA is very heavily based upon ''EarthBound 64'' for the Nintendo 64DD .
