In economic and inner European matters the UK's approach often clashes with the pro integration of France and Germany: the European Union was founded on the basis of a close political and economic co-operation between France and Germany and it forms the core of the European project. However, together with the UK, as the EU's second largest economy and considerable military capacities, the EU-3 forms a substantial extension of the Franco-German axis. |
