GEOGRAPHY The downtown area is located on a peninsula in the northern part of Vancouver proper. It is generally surrounded by False Creek to the south, Burrard Inlet to the north, Stanley Park to the west and the Downtown Eastside to the east. Some people may include the West End as part of downtown as well, but the City of Vancouver considers them separate neighbourhoods. Downtown Vancouver is also home to Yaletown , a former industrial area that has transformed into an upscale residential neighbourhood from the late 20th century to the present day. TRANSPORTATION Downtown is served by several bridges: the Lions Gate Bridge from the north and Granville Street Bridge and Cambie Street Bridge to the south. Almost all north-south Vancouver bus routes serve the area, in addition to suburban routes from Richmond , South Surrey , North Vancouver , West Vancouver , Port Coquitlam , Coquitlam , Port Moody and Delta . Downtown is also served by the SkyTrain system, which has several subway stations in the area. The SeaBus also complements the bus routes to North and West Vancouver. The Bus Rapid Transit line 98 B-Line has eight stops in the downtown core, mostly along Seymour Street and Burrard Street. SPORTS The Vancouver Canucks of the NHL plays at downtown's GM Place and the British Columbia Lions of the CFL plays right next door at BC Place . EXTERNAL LINKS |
