The area just proximal to the station is one of Osaka's poorest districts, with 600Yen per night hotels, porno theatres, and prostitute districts all within walking distance. You can also find many Enka theatres and even gambling dens nearby. Needless to say, this area is one in which the Yakuza presence is particularly felt, if not downright open. The area is also crowded with Homeless men and day labor agencies. The Osaka City Govenment has tried to revitalize the area, building a mall and an amusement park, but the efforts have proved useless so far, and the mall and amusement park are in danger of going out of business.
