GEOGRAPHY Dickinson is located at (46.883575, -102.788811). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 24.6 Km&2 (9.5 Mi&2 ). 24.5 km&2 (9.5 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it (0.21%) is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 16,010 people, 6,517 households, and 4,020 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 652.7/km&2 (1,690.7/mi&2). There were 7,033 housing units at an average density of 286.7/km&2 (742.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.16% White , 0.27% African American , 1.20% Native American , 0.24% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 0.32% from Other Races , and 0.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.05% of the population. The top 6 ancestry groups in the city are German (54.1%), Norwegian (14.2%), Czech (7.5%), Russian (7.2%), Irish (5.5%), English (3.7%). There were 6,517 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% were Married Couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.99. In the city the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 13.8% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $31,542, and the median income for a family was $41,566. Males had a median income of $30,613 versus $19,951 for females. EDUCATION K-12 Dickinson is served by the Dickinson Public Schools system. There are also several parochial schools in Dickinson.
