Ossana and McMurtry co-wrote the screenplay for '' Brokeback Mountain '', for which they won the Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay. The film, released in the United States in December 2005, is based on a short story of the same name by Annie Proulx . Additionally, Ossana was a producer for the film. The daughter of an Italian immigrant father, Ossana was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri .
