Sophomore album Diana DeGarmo's sophomore effort is currently in progress. DeGarmo has actually stated that she would begin recording her new album in summer of 2005, but then got sidetracked with her role on ''West Side Story'' and has finally begun recording, and will continue during her time on "''Hairspray'' in New York. DeGarmo has stated in recent interviews that her new album is taking a new direction: "I like to call it 'rop,' a lot of pop with a little R & B and some funk and dance." She has also stated that lyrically, the material would be both personal and in general. (DeGarmo has stated wanting to do "ROP" since Summer of 2004, but RCA did not agree with this decision.) She has also stated all material will be original, except for the possibility of one cover song. DeGarmo has stayed clear of saying who is working on her new record. As of October 2005, DeGarmo has not signed on with another record label. "At the moment, I really don't need one because of where I am in my career," she said.
