Information About

Destiny Islands

KINGDOM HEARTS

The starting off point for Kingdom Hearts was Destiny Islands, a place where children could adventure and explore all day with lack of parental supervision.

Sora can fight a younger version of Tidus, Wakka, or Selphie for experience and levels. He is also asked to find two sets of items (one to build a raft and one for supplies) for Kairi. After he gives each of these sets to her, a cutscene will ensue. After the Heartless appear, go to the raised/Riku's island with the bridge to see Riku. Here you get your Keyblade , in its default form, the Kingdom Key. Now you can defeat the Heartless. Go to the Secret Place and defeat Darkside to leave the island forever through the door.

When Destiny Islands are attacked by the darkness, Sora, Riku and Kairi are all separated. It is unknown what happens to Wakka, Selphie, and Tidus after the islands were destroyed. This is also where the main villain, Xehanort , (referred-to out of ignorance as ''Ansem''), made his first appearance in the game, as a cloaked figure in the Secret Place.

After Xehanort attempts to weaken Sora's resolve by fighting him at the Destiny Islands, Xehanort's defeat leads to the restoration of the islands as the door to darkness is closed. The event traps Riku and King Mickey on the other side of the door while Kairi is left on the reforming Destiny Islands as Sora leaves her to find Riku.

KINGDOM HEARTS: CHAIN OF MEMORIES

The actual Destiny Islands never appear in ''''. Rather, a version of it appears in Castle Oblivion based on the memories of Sora and Riku as they ascend the floors of the fortress.

We learn in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories it was Riku who led to the destruction of the islands in the first game and because of that, he fears that Sora, Kairi, and the rest of his friends back home will no longer accept him. Sora, at the Destiny Islands, nearly forgets Kairi completely until the "witch" Naminé comes and reveals that she has been replacing his memories of Kairi with herself.

KINGDOM HEARTS II

In '' Kingdom Hearts II '', there is an indication that the Destiny Islands contains a school. One year after the events of the first game, it is known that Kairi and Selphie attend the same school (we also found out Tidus and Wakka do as well through comments by Selphie). The story on Destiny Islands picks up where it last left off, with Kairi on the islands. Kairi's memories of Sora appear to be fading after she receives a visit from Axel and finds herself in Twilight Town with Pluto, Mickey's loyal dog.

After the final battle is fought, Sora and Riku find their way back to the Destiny Islands through the Door to the Light opened when Sora reads a letter Kairi cast off in a bottle at the beginning of ''Kingdom Hearts II''. The letter is word for word the poem that appeared in the original trailer. Kairi welcomes them as they return on the beach where they played as children.

In ''Kingdom Hearts II'', the Destiny Islands are not playable.
