San Francisco Giants First Baseman Willie McCovey hit his 513th career Home Run off Lamp, establishing him as the National League all-time left-handed home run leader ( June 14 , 1979 ).

Lamp also gave up Lou Brock 's 3000th career hit on August 13 of the same 1979 season.

When Lamp signed as a Free Agent with Toronto, the White Sox claimed pitcher Tom Seaver from the Mets as compensation for the loss of Lamp. The Mets left Seaver off their protected list assuming that no team would want him ( January 20 , 1984 ).
