The Democratic League of Kosovo (''Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës'') is the largest Political Party in Kosovo . At the last Legislative Elections , 24 october 2004, the party won 45.4 % of the popular vote and 47 out of 120 seats. One of the founding members, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Rugova was president of the party, as well as President Of Kosovo , until his death on January 21 2006 . The Democratic League of Kosovo stand for an independent, free and democratic Kosovo. The party describes itself as being ''modern and democratic, uniting the tradition and future of the Albanians and paving the way towards independence for Kosova''. It was formed in 1989 by a group of intellectuals headed by Ibrahim Rugova . The Referendum ''for self-determination of Kosova'' in 1991 was, among others, organized by the Democratic League of Kosovo. The Current Chair Of Assembly Of Kosovo , Kolë Berisha , is a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo. The party is presided by a President and three Vice presidents, which are currently Eqrem Kryeziu , Kolë Berisha and Naim Jerliu . It is closely linked to the popular Kosovo daily ''Bota Sot''.
