The was an
Italian Political Party that was originally meant to be the container (mainly composed of former
Republicans and former
Communists of an alliance of
Left-wing forces for the parliamentary elections of
1994 . However, the project did not succeed, and it presented itself as a minor party.
After an unremarkable result, its components entered the left-wing and later centre-left coalitions, with the notable exception of
Ferdinando Adornato , who is now a member of
Silvio Berlusconi 's party,
Forza Italia .
In 1996 the party evolved in
Democratic Union with the entry of other
Republicans , as
Antonio Maccanico , and some
Socialists , as
Giorgio Benvenuto .
