The head of the Defence Logistics Organisation is called the Chief Of Defence Logistics (abbreviated "CDL"). As of 2005, the CDL is General Sir Kevin O'Donoghue.
The mission of the DLO is to “Deliver Logistics for Operations by preparation throughout the preparation, deployment, sustainment, and recovery of an operation to deliver mission success” The DLO was formed in 2000 from the amalgamation of the 3 single service logistics (Chief of Fleet Support (RN), Quartermaster General (Army), and the Air Member for Logistics (RAF)). The DLO currently has 28,000 staff, both Service and civilian. It is based in over 80 locations around the UK and across the world. its headquarters are at Ensleigh near Bath with other major sites near Bicester in Oxfordshire and Telford in Shropshire . The DLO is made up of a number of agencies, responsible for different areas and aspects of defence logistics. The number of agencies is changing as part of a streamlining of defence support. FRONTLINE SUPPORT The Defence Logistics Organisation frontline support was reorganised in 2004-2005 creating 4 posts to directly support the “Frontline” Commands. They are called Domain 2-Stars
DEFENCE LOGISTICS BOARD The DLO is managed by the DLO Board chaired by the Chief of Defence Logistics, with the Deputy Chief of Defence Logistics and all 4 Domain 2-Stars as members. It is similar in function to the Admiralty Board , The Army Board , and the Air Force Board .
