Deerfield Township is a Township located in Cumberland County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the township had a total population of 2,927. Rosenhayn is a Census-designated Place and Unincorporated area located within Deerfield Township. GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 43.6 Km&2 (16.8 Mi&2 ). 43.6 km&2 (16.8 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Deerfield Township borders Upper Deerfield Township , Fairfield Township , Millville , Vineland , and Salem County . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 2,927 people, 1,013 households, and 785 families residing in the township. The Population Density was 67.1/km&2 (173.8/mi&2). There were 1,065 housing units at an average density of 24.4/km&2 (63.2/mi&2). The racial makeup of the township was 78.20% White , 13.05% African American , 1.54% Native American , 1.02% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 3.04% from Other Races , and 3.14% from two or more races. 5.94% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,013 households out of which 34.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% were Married Couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% were non-families. 17.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.22. In the township the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males. The median income for a household in the township was $45,365, and the median income for a family was $47,225. Males had a median income of $34,196 versus $25,147 for females. The Per Capita Income for the township was $18,468. 9.2% of the population and 6.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 8.3% of those under the age of 18 and 14.2% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. Federal, state and county representation Deerfield Township is in the Second Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are educated by the Deerfield Township School, which serves a total of 341 students (as of 2003-04 per the National Center For Education Statistics ). For grades 9-12, students attend Cumberland Regional High School , which serves students from Deerfield Township , Fairfield Township , Greenwich Township , Hopewell Township , Shiloh Borough , Stow Creek Township and Upper Deerfield Township .
