Many consider Death Rap to be one of if not the most extreme form of rap music. Death Rap is characterized by extreme energy, guttural growling/screaming, and occasionally the use of loud distorted electric guitars much like that of Death Metal . Some would consider Death Rap just another form of Horrorcore or wicked rap, but many believe through its use of extreme vocals and extremely dark beats it has earned its right to exist as a subgenre of rap just like Horrorcore.
It is impossible to say for certain who was the originator or creator of Death Rap but two artists seem to stick out: Necro and Resurrector , both of whom claim Death Rap as their own invention. Necro tends to hire major label death metal singers and guitarists such as John Tardy and Allen West of Obituary to mix with his New York-based style and create his version of death rap, whereas Resurrector seems to perform all death metal vocal and guitar parts himself and focuses more on a southern type of sound with 808 drums. Both artists trace their metal influences back to bands like Deicide , Obituary , Cannibal Corpse , and Death .
Final Thoughts - Death Rap is a very extreme and unique form of rap music. It is not for everybody. Metal fans are more likely to appreciate it than the typical rap listener.
