Information About

David Webb (footballer)

He is most famous for scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in the 1970 FA Cup final replay against Leeds United at Old Trafford .

Webb was later manager of Southend United , gaining promotion from the old Fourth Division in 1990 and from the Third Division a year later. They briefly topped the Second Division in January 1992 but wallowed away to mid table during the final weeks of the season. He was the manager who signed Stan Collymore from Crystal Palace .

Webb returned to Chelsea as manager in January 1993, on a short-term contract to replace Ian Porterfield - another former player. They finished 11th in the Premiership but the club's board did not renew his contract and appointed Glenn Hoddle instead. Webb returned to the game within days, taking the manager's job at Brentford - who had just been relegated to Division Two. He remained in charge for four years before quitting, after two play-off appearances had failed to get them back into Division One. Webb later had two brief spells back at Southend before quitting management for good in 2004.

Webb bought Yeovil Town FC from Jon Goddard-Watts in December 2005 , taking over the role of Chief Executive from Chairman John Fry . He resigned from this position in February 2006 . Webb had earlier managed Yeovil for 6 months in 2000 .
