David Newsom




David Newsom is a long-time American actor and Fine-arts Photographer born on March 10, 1964 in North Caldwell, New Jersey . David's father was an investor and his mother was an employment agency manager (as well as an artist later in life). He attended one year at Ohio University but dropped out and a year later he began attending Ithaca College where he earned a degree in film production.

David is a well-known face to many TV viewers but in recent years he's focused heavily on his passion for photography. In 2005, he collaborated with Viggo Mortensen to create a photo journal called ''Skip'' (his eldest brother's nickname) published by Mortensen's Perceval Press .

In 2005, David began producing movies, starting with his first short film ''Mother'' , written and directed by Sian Heder .

In April 2006, "Mother" won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Florida Film Festival , a victory which automatically qualified the film for a potential Academy Award nomination. ''Mother'' was also selected for the May 2006 Cinefondation Competition of the Cannes Film Festival . The film was then selected for competition at the Mendocino Film Festival , the Boston International Film Festival , as well as the prestigious US competition, the Seattle International Film Festival .

  • Worked in the past as a band singer, alternative newspaper editor, writer, waiter, delivery man, blasting worker, beer bottler, fence installer, dish washer, and in film production as well as set construction

  • Lived across from Tompkins Square Park in the East Village in New York City during the police riots in the late 80's

  • Dated actresses Elizabeth Berridge in the early 90's and Kristen Johnston in 1996. Also, was a long-term boyfriend of actress Jessica Steen , his co-star on ABC 's hit series Homefront

  • Was involved with the Burning Man Festival for many years and was well-known for throwing large events at the site

  • Has a dog named "Burt".

  • Lives in Los Angeles with girlfriend, writer/director Siân Heder.
