Davanagere, also known as '''Davangere''', (ದಾವಐಗೆರೆ in Kannada ) is one of the major cities in the Indian state of Karnataka . It is the administrative headquarters of Davanagere District . Previously known for its Cotton mills, it is fast developing into one of the major cities of Karnataka .

Davanagere was famous for textiles. It is also famous for its educational institutes. It has two medical colleges, three engineering colleges and a number of other colleges offering courses in arts, commerce and science. The student population is made up of the people from different cities and states in India. There are a limited number of foreign students studying at Davanagere. Davanagere has Chigeteri Mills.


EVENTS

A major attraction of Davanagere is the "Durgambika Devi (the grama devi or local deity)" jatre (fest) that is conducted once in 3 years in the month of march/april.The celebrations continue for more than 10 days.


FOOD

Davangere is also famous for its special eatables, "benne dosa" and "mandakki, menasina-kai" that attract various people from all around the state of Karnataka.


EDUCATION

Davangere is being called the Oxford of Karnataka, since almost all major courses are offered here. Davangere has 3 reputed Engineering colleges,2 Dental colleges and a Medical college. It also has good Business schools, Arts college and many more educational facilities.
